Winemaker's comments:
Great depth of colour with youthful purple hues. The bouquet demonstrates true merlot characteristics of red cherry, mulberry and tealeaf, framed by oak spices of cinnamon and vanilla. A rich supple palate of red cherry and plums supported by firm tannins and subtle cedary oak. A wine of good balance with intensity of varietal fruit. The wine's fruitfulness and complexity is to be enjoyed now or will further develop with cellaring over the next 5 - 7 years.
Background Information:
Moondah Brook is a contemporary range of varietal wines sourced from premium Western Australian vineyards.
As a true expression of each variety, Moondah Brook wines are fruit driven with spicy full-flavoured styles. Intensity and texture, together with premium WA fruit, make them perfect food wines.
Moondah Brook - Bring out the flavour.
What's the Difference?:
2001 provided excellent conditions for the first release of the Western Australian Merlot, made in the fruit driven Moondah Brook Style. Sourced from 5-25 year old vines the 2001 Moondah Brook Merlot was matured for months in a combination of French and American oak.
