Courtney Treacher
Winemaker

Queensland born, Courtney is the first to admit she ventured into winemaking not really knowing what to expect, but she quickly developed a passion for turning grapes into wine.

While studying Courtney worked as a casual vineyard hand at various vineyards in the Greater Perth and Margaret River regions, performing a range of tasks from working in a vine nursery and training of young vines through pruning, wire lifting and shoot thinning.

In her final year of study Courtney completed her first vintage at Redgate Wines in Margaret River. With an annual crush of 250 tonnes and a close knit winery team of three, she was involved in all facets of production.

Courtney graduated from Western Australia’s Curtin University of Technology with a Bachelor of Science (Viticulture and Oenology) in 2002.

In 2003 Courtney ventured east to Tamburlaine in the Hunter Valley for vintage. Here she was again involved in all operations of running the cellar and was primarily in charge of the daily laboratory analysis.

She joined Houghton Wines as a Cellar Hand at its Middle Swan site in 2004, working predominately on yeast culturing and in red fermentation management through the vintage period. She spent the remainder of the year working in the cellar and gaining exposure to the blending, stabilisation and clarification processes before being appointed Vintage Assistant Winemaker for the 2005 vintage.

In September 2005, Courtney was appointed Assistant Winemaker, working in this role she has had the opportunity to work with fruit sourced from all of the major viticultural regions of Western Australia and had the pleasure of making wines from premium hand picked fruit.

Appointed Moondah Brook winemaker in October of 2007 Courtney continues to enjoy being a part of a dynamic winemaking team.

Courtney has been involved in both the Swan Valley and Royal Perth Wine Show as an associate judge.
